THE HEAVILIN HERALD
JANUARY 2009
As I looked back over the year of 2008, I
remembered some high points as well as some low
points. The low points definitely include the
home going of many of our friends and family.
The high points include celebrating our 50th
wedding anniversary, seeing so many of our
friends, and meeting our entire family in New
York City to celebrate our anniversary. It was
so much fun to have our entire family around the
table at Beccos in NYC. Thanks to Jennifer
Toneck, we were able to orchestrate the entire
event including attending a performance of Mary
Poppins. Fifty years! Can you believe that? It
doesn’t seem possible until I realize that our
children will be celebrating their 27th and 25th
wedding anniversaries in 2009.
We thoroughly enjoyed seeing our daughter
perform as Marian the Librarian in The Music
Man. Mellyn’s performance was mesmerizing and we
nearly popped our buttons because we were so
proud of her. She graduated from college this
year as well and is now subbing as an elementary
school teacher.
Marilyn got to be reunited with her cousin
Bobbie after more than 50 years. Getting in
touch with family has become very important to
both of us.
We spent Christmas with Mike, Mellyn, and
Christian in Rocklin, CA. We are now parked in
the Buellton area of California and plan to
arrive in Morro Bay for our sixty day stay on
January 8. While we are parked here, we took the
opportunity to see the Pacific Ocean and visit
the Monarch butterfly grove in Pismo, CA. We are
constantly in awe of God’s amazing plan of
nature that the butterflies consistently return
to that same eucalyptus grove every year. How do
the butterflies know to go to that same spot
each year? Why do they always choose that same
grove when there are many eucalyptus groves in
the area? Who tells them where to go? (The
orange spots in the picture are butterflies.)
We love to catch a view of the ocean, just to
make sure it is still there! Yup, it is.
Just recently Marilyn saw a view of a sunrise
that she wanted to share with you.
MAY YOUR HOLIDAYS BE GENTLE AND YOUR NEW YEAR
PEACEFUL.
